Collins has focused most of his 30-year career in the field of insurance contract dispute/bad faith litigation. For the first 20 years he was in charge of the largest coverage department in Southern California. He has over 100 trials to his credit, including many jury trial verdicts in a variety of other practice areas: medical, product, premises, automobile, etc. He specializes in complex insurance cases in both the federal and state courts as well as handling day-to-day coverage problems for insurance clients and governmental entities. He has written several articles for the nationally published DRI journal, "For the Defense," and has lectured for organizations throughout California on insurance law. He has seven published opinions to his credit in coverage areas including automobile, legal and medical malpractice, product liability, trigger of loss, and advertising injury. Mr. Collins is one of only two Sacramento lawyers holding membership in the prestigious Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel, and is a member of numerous professional organizations including the State Bar of California; American Bar Association; Defense Research Institute; and the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel. Mr. Collins resides in Auburn, where his great-grandfather originally settled in 1849 at the time of the Gold Rush. After growing up in Sacramento, he attended Stanford University, receiving an A.B. degree in psychology in 1966, and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, graduating with a J.D. degree in 1970.
